An intrepid cyclist from Redditch is planning on cycling 2000km around France for charity whilst following the Euros to be held in the summer. Tom Sweeney, 22, from Redditch is embarking on this journey on the 25th of June with minimal gear, little money and his trust-worthy fixed-gear bicycle. Tom has been studying in Southampton for the past three years and is donating the money raised to Alzheimer’s Society. He plans on stopping off at the designated fan zones for the football matches and tracking England’s progress.

Tom said: “After a cycle tour in Morocco in the New Year, I felt it would and should be possible to make use of my ability on my bicycle to help raise some money for Alzheimer's Society by doing something different and making it memorable. My Nana had suffered from Alzheimers as she got older, and it was difficult to see someone with so much life to be affected by such a terrible illness. I just hope that the ride would have made her proud, and that it will help to raise awareness for the cause, whilst showing that anything can be achieved by anyone, if you put your mind to it!"

Emma Dowler, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society, said: “This is a fantastically unique fundraising venture and we wish Tom all the best in completing his journey. The money raised will fund important research into dementia and valuable services for those currently living with the condition.”
