In mid 2015, Jim Dunphy, owner of the Edmunds Bar and Grill as it was then called, was looking for an opportunity to refresh his Birmingham City centre pub and give it a point of difference over his competition. Acknowledging the growth in popularity of small batch beer, and the growing demand for local products, Jim started to look into options that would allow him to brew his own beer. He quickly realised however, that the space required for a traditional brewery set-up was more than his premises could accommodate. 

The twentieth anniversary of the St. Kitts Music Festival has been a stand-out hit, as crowds have come out in record numbers to see the stellar line-up that was created for the historic occasion. “In the past two decades that we have been producing the St. Kitts Music Festival, never has here been an attendance level like we have seen this year,” said the Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry & Commerce.

Returning with a bang for its 19th edition, the World Creole Music Festival has raised its curtain on a programme packing more star power than ever before. Masterfully blending Caribbean culture, renowned talent and a symphony of musical styles, the headlines garnered high praise by attendees of the recent official launch, hosted at the Anchorage Hotel, Whale Watch and Dive Centre.

This summer, Edinburgh's five star attraction Dynamic Earth is taking visitors on an epic journey deep into the universe beyond the earth's atmosphere with a jam-packed programme of space-themed events and activities for budding astronauts. On selected days Dynamic Earth will be hosting a 360° immersive multi-media theatre experience, Cosmos Planetarium, which takes visitors on a virtual tour of the night sky where they will see all 88 constellations in the northern and southern hemisphere skies.

A great afternoon of rock 'n' roll inspired music organised by King's Heath Walk of Fame will take place at Fletchers Bar on Sunday 10 July. As well as commemorating the many famous musicians like Bill Haley, Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis who performed at the now burnt down Ritz Ballroom opposite Fletchers the session will also showcase Harry Jordan - an exciting new local talent.

The Grand Theatre is dishing out discounted tickets for two of its shows during next month’s Enjoy Wolverhampton programme. The Lichfield Street theatre receives a wide range of major touring productions including drama, musicals, ballet, dance, opera, variety, concerts, children's shows and one of the biggest pantomimes in the UK, with audiences from across the region and beyond taking advantage of excellent transport links to the town.

Wolverhampton residents have been getting a taste of army life as part of a unique programme to help improve their employment opportunities. City of Wolverhampton Council joined forces with Army Careers, City of Wolverhampton College and the Department of Works & Pensions (DWP) to put together a four-week army course. The aim was to help residents overcome barriers to employment and to get a feel for life in the British Regular & Reserved Armed Forces.

Five Birmingham City Council children’s libraries have been updated with new equipment and furniture, after receiving grant funding of £250,000 to make improvements. The funding boost – which enabled libraries in Balsall Heath, Druids Heath, Kings Norton, Kingstanding and Small Heath to make improvements and finance educational projects – was awarded by the Wolfson Foundation, an independent charity that supports and promotes excellence in a wide range of fields, including education and the arts.

As Britain gears up to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth and in the run-up to the launch of the film adaption of The BFG, VisitBritain is showcasing to the world what makes Britain a GIANT - and family-friendly - tourism destination. The national tourism organisation has launched an international ‘Where Giant Dreams come to Life’ film tourism campaign in its first-ever collaboration with Disney, producer of The BFG.

Greece has seen a resurgence in music festivals in the last decade and is increasingly becoming a favourite with music fans from across Europe. This surge in events has been helped by a burgeoning electronic scene introducing new dance festivals such as Reworks and Odyssia, as well as more established concerts such as Rockwave and Ejekt continuing to attract established artists from around the world.

A short aerial film recently launched reveals a monumental painting in Birmingham’s Centenary Square. Entitled Leviathan, it was created by Madrid-based artist, An Wei Lu Li, as part of the city’s BE FESTIVAL. BE FESTIVAL, Birmingham’s festival of European theatre and visual arts, commissioned An Wei to create the huge artwork that covers the surface of Centenary Square as an opening to this year’s festival, which starts on Tuesday June 22.

Sea Life Centres including the Sea Life London Aquarium have teamed up with Disney•Pixar to enable visitors to share the excitement of Finding Dory this summer. A special Disney•Pixar Finding Dory event will be hosted at the Aquarium running from July 16 until September 11 2016. Visitors will be led on an interactive trail by one of the new Disney•Pixar movie's star sea creatures Hank (voice of Ed O'Neill), a cantankerous octopus.

Wolverhampton Art Gallery will add a splash of colour to the Enjoy Wolverhampton ten-day programme of events next month. The Lichfield Street gallery will begin its Sunday opening times from July 3 (10.30am to 4.30pm) – and you better bring your sunglasses to savour a neon mix of colours erupting in the venue’s latest celebration of the Pop Art Movement. The ‘Craft Goes Pop’ exhibition is now on show and brings together handmade works by leading designers influenced by the Pop Art movement.

On Saturday 9th July Victorian Arcade in Walsall will be hosting a very special Superhero Fun Day featuring the iconic Batmobile to entertain the whole family. From 11am until 4pm a replica of the famous Batmobile, from the original 1989 movie starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, will be situated at the entrance of the shopping arcade for shoppers to pose and take pictures with.

Enjoy Wolverhampton! This is the message behind an exciting ten-day programme of events planned across the city from Friday, July 1 to Sunday 10. Partners across Wolverhampton have come together to entice residents and visitors with a host of free or purse-friendly activities and offers. Highlights include a free afternoon of horse racing at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Tuesday, July 5; free entry to the Wolves Museum where you can have your football memorabilia valued; and a free tour of Banks’s Brewery.
